Description

1833 sampler made by Lucretia Whittle from Danville, VT. The top line has a cursive alphabet, upper case letters. Second line has the block alphabet in upper case letters. The third section is blank with evidence of many threads still on the back. Below that it reads: "Executed by Lucretia J (T?) Whittle of Danville / Vt. in the 13th year of her age Sept. 1833. / Jesus permit thy sacred name to stand / At the increasing effort of a youthful hand / And while her fingers o're this canvas move / Encase her tender heart to seek thy love."
