Description

Springfield Model 1863 long-barreled musket. The lock plate is marked, "1863 / S.N. & W.T.C. FOR MASSACHUSETTS 1863". The barrel is marked "1864 / 7 VP / LFR". The number 72 is incised into the wood behind the hammer.

Context

Owned by the Col. Preston GAR Post in Wells River, Vermont. The GAR was a fraternal organization for form soldiers in the Union Army.
