Description

Grey wool forage cap with leather-covered front brim. There is a leather strap across the front, held on either end by brass buttons impressed with the Vermont state seal. There is a thin gold band around the base of the crown, possibly indicating the wearer's rank.

Context

Part of the uniform worn by members of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vermont Regiments during the Civil War.
