Description

Two-piece dress consisting of a bodice and skirt. The bodice is constructed of a plain-woven silk with a brown plaid design. It opens up the center front and secures with 14 carved shell buttons. The 3/4-length sleeves are curved at the elbow, and the cuffs are decorated with piping and pleated brown silk. There is a brown silk belt (backed with buckram) across only the front of the bodice, permanently attached at the side seams and securing at the center front with three hooks and eyes. The hem line is extended in a U-shape at the center back. The skirt is constructed in two parts: an overskirt of the same plaid silk, and a plain brown underskirt of the same fabric as the belt and cuffs. The over skirt is gathered into a bustle or swags.
