Description

Brown leather belt with a rectangular brass buckle. The buckle is molded with a spread eagle with a federal shield over its chest. The belt has a leather attachment for connecting to a sword scabbard.

Context

Worn by Christopher C. Putnam during the Civil War. Putnam served as Sergeant in Company I of the 13th Vermont Regiment, and served as Captain and Lieutenant Colonel of Company B of the 4th Vermont Militia.
