Biography
Barbara Cochran was one of three sisters who were spectacular alpine skiers in the 1960's and 1970's. She was on the United States Ski Team from 1968-1974, the International Ski Federation Team from 1970-1974, and the 1972 U.S. Olympic Team. She won a Gold Medal at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. Her gold medal was the first won by an American skier at the Olympics in twenty years. She also won a silver medal in the slalom at the 1970 International Ski Federation World Championships, and was the U.S. National Champion in the Giant Slalom and Slalom. In 1976 she was inducted into the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
A 1978 graduate of the University of Vermont, she is now a member of the UVM Hall of Fame. She is a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. In 1993, she co-authored a book with her sister, Linda, entitled "Teach Your Child to Ski." Her business, Golden Opportunities in Sports, teaches athletes to increase their confidence and skills so that they can succeed. She has two children, Caitlin and Ryan, and lives in Starksboro, Vermont.Education
