Description

Red cotton handkerchief or scarf. The scarf is printed with a white, Greek key border. There are two white circles in the middle. The circle on the left is printed with a bust portrait of a bearded man wearing a suit facing to the right. The image is labeled, "JAMES A GARFIELD REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT". The circle on the right is printed with a bust portrait of a man with a mustache and very long mutton chops. The image is labeled, "CHESTER A. ARTHUR REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT." Stamped at the top right corner is the label, "COCHRANE'S TURKEY RED".

Owned by Jonathan Nothrup of Fairfield, Vermont, who babysat Chester Arthur as a child.
