Raymond Orance Roy (1906-1996) worked as an electrician at the Vermont Marble Co. from 1936-1974, according to his obituary in the Caledonia Record. He and his wife were from St. Johnsbury. The billy club references an event on Nov. 11, 1935. at the marble company. It isn't clear if Raymond Roy was in the area at that time. Workers called a strike against the company in early November of 1935 after company officials announced 25 percent pay cuts in response to a sharp decline in orders. After some confrontations between strikers, truckers hauling quarry materials and replacement workers, the company hired dozens of sheriffs and deputies to police the scene. There is no information to determine if Raymond Roy was a replacement worker or a striker.
