Ethel was educated in Massachusetts and came to Vermont to teach art in the Montpelier school system. She married Fred H. Gear in 1914 and they had three children. She showed some of her paintings in art shows such as the Cracker Barrel Bazaar in Newbury in 1953. She was a member of the Northern Vermont Artists League.Acquisition
