Miniature portrait of General William Wells, Jr. (1837-1892). The portrait is painted on a paper round and is signed "Artique" along the lower right edge.
Wells was a Vermont Civil War General and medal of honor recipient for gallantry at the Battle of Gettysburg on Big Round Top 3 July 1863. The portrait is most likely hand-painted on celluloid over a photo processed printed image, and likely came out of a locket.Use
