Under the medal is "ORA ET LABORA" meaning "prayer and work." The letters on the medal form the following prayer: "Crux sacra sit mihi lux Non draco sit mihi dux Vare retro Satana Nunquam swade mihi vana Sunt mala qui libas Ipse venena biba."
