Christ at His Baptism (Obverse with 1887.093)

Name/Title

Christ at His Baptism (Obverse with 1887.093)

Entry/Object ID

1887.094

Description

Drawn on both sides of the paper. Miscatalogued as two separate works with 1887.093. These two works show what is present on many of the drawings in the Saint Vincent Art Collections. Namely, paper during this time was expensive and could not be wasted. Hence, with these two drawings we see two fully executed and well-rendered drawings on the front and back of the same sheet. Artists frequently used both sides of the sheet, and recycled any piece of paper they could reuse. Some of the drawings have partial written passages and lists that were obviously cut down and reused from other purposes, while others have been attached to previously used papers to give support.
