Name/Title
Drawing for an Altar with Baptism of Christ, an Unknown Saint and St. Michael the Archangel (obverse)/Pencil Sketch (reverse)Entry/Object ID
1880.007Description
Paper and technique is similar to altarpieces that appear to be Br. Cosmas drawing works by his teacher, Johann P. Petz.
In lower right is also written Funfkirchen. Funfkirchen is the German for the Hungarian city of Pécs, which is southwestern Hungary, near the Croatian border. The work is undated, but is it possible this too is a drawing from 1857-1862 and Br. Cosmas is studying the techniques of his teacher, Johann Petz? If this is the reference, then did Br Cosmas travel to Hungary?Artwork Details
