There are a total of seven of these figure studies in the Saint Vincent Art Collections in addition to this drawing, 1887.103, 1887.104, 1887.105. All of them are by the same hand. In these works, the artist appears to be studying draped male and female figures in biblical style clothing. The artist has mastered rendering draped models, and may have used these studies to help create larger compositions such as paintings or murals.
