Front and Side Elevation, with Floorplan and Cross Sectional Drawing of Newark Abbey Church

Name/Title

Front and Side Elevation, with Floorplan and Cross Sectional Drawing of Newark Abbey Church

Entry/Object ID

1866.003

Description

A single piece of tracing paper with the front and side elevations of Newark Abbey Church, and includes a floorplan and sectional plan. It is not signed and it is not known who the architect is. Some sources say Patrick Keeley, however, older sources do not seem to list him. There is some speculation that the architect was a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent, but the technical skills and size do not seem to indicate that it is a Br. Cosmas Wolf, O.S.B. Br. Cosmas did design and make the altars for the church, so it is possible that the architect sent the design to Br. Cosmas so that he could plan appropriate altars for the interior. It is also possible that the drawing is by Francis G. Himpler, and architect who worked with Br. Cosmas on several projects.
