This is a full-scalle drawing for a candlestick. At least five (and probably a complete set of six) were made. One is in the Saint Vincent Art Collections, and four of them are at St. Mary's Church, St. Marys, Pennsylvania (as of 2013). There are various notations all over the drawing. At center right is: "0 Silber nägl oder rubinen" = "Siver nails or rubies." In top left is "Blumen" = "Flowers." In lower left is says "Blei balons" = "lead baloons"--and odd comment. In various places across the drawing are the following: "glg." "glanzgold," and "glanzg," all of which indicate places where gold leaf should be applied. In signature "gem." is German abbreviation for "Gemacht" (made). This was a signature abbreviation Br. Cosmas used mostly in the 1880s.Artwork Details
