Japanese Jarginer (mistakenly thought to be the Baptismal Font of King Ludwig IEntry/Object ID
1980.022Description
According to Stanislaus Zachewicz, Howard Heinz purchased on of king Ludwig's castles in which his baptismal font was found. The castle was dismantled and then reassembled in America. For transporting, the font was cut in two (it was originally one solid piece of wood). After Mr. Heinz's death, the font was purchased by Louis Lanzino at public auction for $250.00. He displayed the font in his floral shop and then later sold it for $250.00 to Fr. Stanislaus Zachewicz, who gave it to Saint Vincent in 1980. However, correspondence with the estate of H.J. Heinz does not substantiate Fr. Zachewicz's story, and Louis Lanzino has been impossible to reach for his comments. Correspondance with institutions in Germany has also been fruitless.Collection
