Artist’s Intent NoteNote
"Throughout the 1920s, critical accolades and several awards bestowed by the Paris Salon collectively recognized his luminous style. Entirely composed of loose, staccato-like strokes, this painting demonstrates the affinity the artist maintained not only for his father’s pointillist paintings, but also his enduring interest in depicting figures in moments of repose. Martin-Ferrières would later travel extensively throughout Europe and the United States, documenting local life, cityscapes, and unpopulated landscapes in vivid hues" (Impressionist Legacies 55).
