Dear Mr. Godwin,
Friday Rev. McElroy called to tell me
of current news on St. Mark's aisle
windows. So I understand, the committee has
made a competition job of these remaining 3 windows &
have designated Rev. Mc. ELroy to obtain a
sketch from me of the Baptism & Temptatation
windows by Fr, of this week. I have endeavoured to
explain to the committee through Rev. Mc. Elroy that
such a sketch would only be a small sealed reproduction
of out window already installed with the only changes
occurring in color scheme, outside borders, & subject
natural in the medallions. These medallion
drawings, I'm only too glad to draw full seals
for the committee upon the commission
of this work to me.
I write to
you as I believe you may be able to
understand my situation more clearly
& be so kind as to explain to the committee that
[page 2]
they have sufficient examples of our work -
through the installed window & drawings I
have sent of late. To ask still for now, especially
when the job has become tentative (on these
remaining three aisle windows) is to cause me
considerable time & expense. I have
of obvious necessity lowered the cost to $1250 &
promised to retain the quality of glass & detail
of design & leading (as you may have guessed
my work has improved considerably in technique
& glass selection to do my best & better for St. Mark's.)
I should appreciate it greatly if you can succeed
in explaining to the committee that there is
in their possession supplemental material on which
to make a safe decision as to
whether they like or dislike my work.
Thank-you very much for your time & under-
standing. If at all possible, I hope to stop by in Toledo
in several weeks on my way home from Chicago
& once again visit your exceptional museum & the Cathedral
Sincerely,
Louise PitassiTranscriber
