Bardone sojourned from Paris to Normandy in the spring of 1956 after assuming the former Montmartre studio of Post-Impressionist Albert André, where he created this painting. Behind the stables depicted in the foreground, the arrival of spring is heralded by recently-turned soil, flowering trees, and vibrant green pastures. His extensive travels are recorded in works that reveal a recurrent desire to capture landscapes during seasonal shifts. Bardone often melded dense blocks of color into one another, thus giving his canvases a palpable earthiness.Created By
