Throughout their [Gilbery and his wife, Adrienne Robert's] travels, Italy remained an important locale for Gilbery, who returned regularly for nearly five decades. Here, among the olive trees, he presents the Northern Tuscan town of Pietrasanta awash in golden light. Tiled roofs cluster around the city’s thirteenth century Cathedral of San Martino and its red brick bell tower, never clad with the gleaming white marble that brought Michealangelo Buonarroti to the city in 1516. It has been a haven for artists ever since.Create Date
