The reverse of the drawing has a collector's notation "Nr. 83 Dominichino [sic], fecit," which translates: "No. 83 Domenichino, made." Although this work is quite accomplished and reminiscent of the style of Domenico "Domenichino" Zampieri (1581-1641), it is probably more than likely by a German artist. This work has obviously been cut down to an irregular shape probably not originally intended by the artist. The current shape may be due to the drawing being used loose as a teaching tool for student artists, making the edges torn and frayed, needing to be removed to prevent further damage.
