This sketch has some strikingly similar compositional details with Gian Lorenzo Bernini's famous sculptural grouping from the Cornaro Chapel in the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome, and created from 1647-1652. The subject comes from the mystic Teresa's writing where she describes being overcome by the love of God as if an angel descended from the heavens and pierced her heart with a golden arrow.Artwork Details
