Purpose & Content
The book is a curated anthology of selected articles originally published in the magazine BYTE Magazine (“the small systems journal”) during the early era of microcomputing.
It aims to capture “the microcomputing revolution … the articles that changed the world” (per one description).
The collected material spans a wide range of topics: hardware kits, microprocessor designs, software and programming, peripheral interfaces, and commentary/opinion pieces aimed at a technically literate audience. For example, the Table of Contents (available via an archive scan) lists themes such as “Computer Kits,” “Hardware,” “Software,” “Applications,” “Theory and Technology,” and so on.
The selection includes early seminal work—articles by prominent contributors in the nascent micro-computer field (though the exact bylines vary).
