1995- Microsoft BOB- New/Sealed (12/2024)Tags
MicrosoftDescription
Microsoft Bob was an ambitious project by Microsoft, released on March 11, 1995. It aimed to make computers more user-friendly by replacing the traditional desktop interface with a virtual house. Each room in the house represented different applications, making it easier for novice users to navigate.
The project was led by Karen Fries, with contributions from Melinda Gates, who was the marketing manager. Despite its innovative approach, Microsoft Bob was not well-received and was discontinued in early 1996 due to poor sales and widespread criticism.
Interestingly, some elements of Microsoft Bob, like the cartoon dog Rover, later appeared in other Microsoft products, such as the search companion in Windows XP.Acquisition
