Description

Elwood Theater #6 on Walking Tour Circa 1925, Howard Pulsipher and Elmer Hughes decided to start in the movie business. They showed black and white silent movies on the garage wall of Howard's garage, in the school building, or wherever space was available until 1934. Then they built a movie theater on the old Tithing Lot that Howard had purchased. They took the first letters from Elmer's name and the last letters of Howard's name and called it the Elward Theater. Bud Burgess built the building of adobe bricks. Howard and Elmer operated the Elward Theater for five years then sold to Mike Burns. The admission price of fifteen cents and twenty-five cents was often paid in produce. The Elward was closed in 1960 and torn down in 1986
