Early 1860s circa evening beaded purse with chain handle and fringed bottom.has a clasp closing the inside is gold material with a series of ribbon roses around the top. The purse belonged to a wife of Guile Hardy. This is a gift from Jean Ivie to the museum brought in by her brother William.
When we received the purse the beading was falling apart so a local beading artist Karron Knight stabilized the beading for us. Karron recommends that we do not display hanging, the silk thread is rotting and pressure of hanging will break the connections in the rows. This purse is all hand done with 3 colors of metal beads (gold, silver, and brown) . There are 29 beads to the inch.
