A Paiute cradleboard. Cradleboards are typically carried by the mother on her back or placed against something sturdy. This allows the baby to lay upright and interact with those around them. Cradleboards are also packed with plant leaves and cloth to emulate the feeling of being held. The hood atop this cradleboard was crafted to protect babies from the sun or a fall. This particular cradleboard was crafted by Lila Rogers, a Southern Utah Paiute, and donated to the museum by Norm Tom, in memory of his late wife, Nita Nay Tom.
