A model of the famous 20 Mule Borax Team that was made by Lamond Hughes when he was a teenager. These teams were run by the U.S. Borax company from 1883-1889. The teams were composed of eighteen mules and two horses and, with the help of a muleskinner (driver) would make trips delivering borax found in Death Valley to the railhead near Mojave. While the teams were only active for six years, they quickly become iconography for the Old West.
