Hand Brick Machine - This hand brick machine with pallets was purchased used in Hurricane, UT. by Ira Reber and Nephew Roland in the early 1940's for the purpose of brick making. Arrangements were made with frank Lowe to haul the machine and pallets to Mesquite, NV. in his truck. It would make 10 bricks at a time 2" x 4" x 8" in size. The mixture consisted of 1 part of cement to 10 parts of screened gravel with brick powder, paint and water. It was mixed together by a cement mixer first, then stamped in the brick machine and placed on the lumber pallet for a 10 day drying period in the sun. The brick Ira used to veneer his home with was made by this machine. A little over 10,00 bricks were needed for the job. Ira with his 2 brothers Clyde and Ralston worked together to make the brick. it took three days to make this amount. they turned out 3500 brick a day easily. Ira, Ralston and the assistance of Brent and Lee walker, Roland and Calvin Reber laid up the brick. The brick added 4 inches more in width to the outside of the wall. The thickness of the wall including the plastered wall inside measured 12" thru afterward, thus adding greatly to the coolness of the house.
This machine was used to make the home of Ralston and Myrtle Reber. The home has been purchased by Sam Rebers nephew (2016circa) It is one of the few remaining adobe homes in the area . The adobe has been plastered over .The house is the last house on the left on Leavitt lane
