These are long spikes looped at the end with a candle holder welded on. The sharpened end is driven into the rock wall, then the candle hold was used to light the dark mine.

Description
A candle holder that was used in the mines around Gold Butte circa 1918. The holders could either be hooked onto something or driven into a piece of timber or a rock wall via the sharpened end. These types of candle holders were nicknamed "sticking tommies" by the miners.
