A chair back scarf that was made by Mary Ann Stucki Hafen. Mary Ann was born in Switzerland on May 5, 1854, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1860 to join other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was only six years old when she travelled across the U.S. to Utah via a handcart company. Mary Ann moved to Nevada in 1891 and became one of early settlers of the Bunkerville and Mesquite area. She was the second of John George Hafen's four wives, and ended up raising her family practically by herself when she moved to Bunkerville, as John George had to spend most of his time in Santa Clara with his other wives and their families. The story of Mary Ann truly highlights the resilience, work ethic, and determination of many of the Valley's early pioneer women.
