Description

This antique violin originally belonged to an Olaf Severtson, and is at least 120 years old. Olaf was born in Norway and played his violin in an orchestra there. He eventually immigrated to the United States and lived in Iowa, Minnesota, and California. After Olaf's son died, Elizabeth McComb, a descendant of Olaf and a Mesquite resident, became the heir. While the violin is not related to the area by itself, it does tell the story of a pioneer that immigrated to the U.S. for his religion, which mirrors the story of the majority of the Valley's early settlers.
