Description

Sepia photograph of the crew of the steam yacht "Wintonia." It is mounted on 11 x 15" cardboard backing. The luxury steam yacht WINTONIA was built by Day, Summers and Co. In Southampton, England in 1894 for her owner F.H. Punton. She weighed 233 tons and measured 137'LOA x 19.2'B x 11.2'D. The "Wintonia," official number 104033, was a British screw steam yacht of the following dimensions: Length 137.9 ft., breadth 19.2 ft., and depth of hold 12.75 ft. She was 168.34 tons gross, and 109.29 tons registered tonnage. She was built by Messrs. Day, Summers & Co., Southampton, in 1894, and was owned by Francis Hill Punton, Esq., of "The Lawn," Winchester, in the County of Hants. She was fitted with compound inverted engines, of 50 n.h.p. and 270 i.h.p., and steams 11 knots, and was found, fitted and equipped as a pleasure yacht, carrying boats, life-saving appliances, belts, buoys, &c., according to. the Act. She was originally named the "Lady Maisey," but this was changed to "Wintonia" on the 28th of June, 1895, per Board of Trade Surveyor's Order dated June 25th, 1895 (M. 11255).
