Provenance

Notes

According to the seller it is "from the personal collection of Alice Creighton George who resided in Thomaston Maine. This collection covers the years of approx. 1908-1920, chronicling her life as a student at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, which at the time was Norton Female Seminary, also known as Wheaton Seminary, her life following school in Thomaston, and her travels around the state of Maine. In Thomaston, we believe she resided in what was known as the Creighton homestead, a house built by architect James Overlock. Ms. George later rented an artist's studio cabin which we believe was in Monhegan, Maine, circa 1915, where she painted landscapes in the imressionism style. A couple of her paintings are now available from the Wiscasset Bay Gallery. To the best of our knowledge, Alice Creighton George died in Camden, Knox County, Maine, on April 9, 1986. It appears she never married."
