WHC 2012.11Scope and Content
Genealogy of the Nicholas Berry family and transcribed correspondence of Captain Nicholas Berry 1801-1876. According to the donor, Nicholas Berry was the son of John Berry. He had a brother James and a sister Agnes, but he was the only member of the family to come to the United States, to Boston, circa 1815 at the age of 8 with his father. John Berry was a merchant mariner and Nicholas' mother was likely deceased at the time he came to Boston. He lived with the Stimpsons of Boston for many years and apprenticed in a sail loft until leaving for New York City to start his own business. He married Hope Strong Clark in 1838 and lived at 4 Union Street in Camden until his death.Collection
