Scope and Content

Account book owned by Ignatius Sherman (1798-1870) of Camden, Maine, which lists many of the residents of the Camden / Rockport area and contains many loose scraps of paper listing transactions. An index book was found inside with alphabetical names starting with Isaac Ames. A list of "road tax 1850" written in back pages. A respected citizen, Sherman bought the Isaac Morse farm extending from the end of Sherman's Point to the top of Mt. Megunticook. House later demolished. According to Robinson's history the large field on this farm facing Sherman's Cove was once known as "Craig's Field" and was the first field cleared in Camden.
