Scope and Content

Negro Island Light Station journal dated April 1, 1860 to December 31, 1863. Journal tracks passing ships and daily weather. Lighthouse keepers at the time were Andrew M. Annis (1860-March 1861) and Isaiah Barbour. The original lighthouse was built by George Galt in 1835. The federal government began requiring records of lighthouses in 1872.
