Diaries and receipts belonging to Benjamin F. Smith, Jr. (1830-1927) Smith was born in South Freedom, Maine and was a noted lithographic artist of bird's eye views, including Philadelphia, in the mid 19th century. Partner in the firm the Smith Brothers, with brothers Francis (1828-1903), George Warren (1825-1922), and David Clifford (1827-1911). Smith and his brother Francis entered the Colorado mining business in the late 1850s and later invested in Omaha stockyards. Smith returned to Maine a wealthy man in the 1880s and built his estate "Warrenton Park " in Glen Cove. He was reputed the richest man in the state by the time of his death in 1927.
