Scope and Content

Digital file of early map of Camden and Rockport with West Camden extension. Undated. Map of pre-division Camden about 1891, showing a draft division line. Rockport, Camden, Rockville, and West Camden [West Rockport] villages are labeled. Lake Megunticook appears as Canaan Pond; Mirror Lake is labeled "Oyster River Pond." This map is undated, but appears to have been made about 1891 as the original town of Camden was splitting into the towns of Camden and Rockport (which occurred on 25 February, 1891). As it does not show the transfer of the quarries from Camden to Rockport, which occurred on 24 March, 1891, the map must have been drafted at some time before that date. It was acquired as a Compact Disk with a reduced size print of the map as a cover for the case, and also printed as a colour print. The source of the original image is unknown, but possibly Town records.
