A letter of recommendation written for Alanson B. Thomas by J.W. Davies[?], master of the S.S. Tenafly. The letter is typewritten on Oriental Navigation Company letterhead. June 10th, 1920 To Whom It May Concern: This is to certify that the bearer, Mr. A.B. Thomas, has served as Third Mate on S.S. "Tenafly" (5092 g. tons) from Feb. 23rd 1920 to June 10th 1920, in South American trade. I have found him to be competent and trustworthy and I believe him to be qualified for the license for which he makes application. Respectfully, J.W. Davies[?] Master, S.S. Tenafly
