A revealing day-by-day account of early nineteenth-century life and activities in a Maine seaport.Description
A detailed accounting of a young man's life over approximately a half dozen years during the age of 22-28 in the 1820's in the coastal community of Thomaston. Maine had just won independence from Massachusetts; the Prince family was prominent both in business affairs and politically. The journals have been noted by the Maine Historical Society for also providing useful source material on the important works of schooners and brigs on coastal waters as the writer worked as a customs inspector and commented on the vessels arriving and departing as well as their passengers and cargo holdings. A detailed appendix is included giving facts about the vessels and people in the text (listed alphabetically).
