The Journal of the Times of Barbara Copeland Wentworth of Cushing, Maine, 1811-1890Description
Divided into four periods during the 1800's, a journal of the life of Barbara Copeland Wentworth. From the early years through 1853, the recordings are of her memories of her home, church and village, to work on the family farm and away, to her marriage and the birth of her children, to her illness. From 1853 - 1870 covers the start of her illness and her families lives during this time in yearly increments. The highlights of entries made from 1871-1881 include her crippling illness which confined her to a wheelchair for thirty years, visits with family and friends, deaths, and assassination of President Garfield. The period of 1882-1890 covers family reunions, and the changes occurring in Barbara's life as well as detailed descriptions of her home. A family genealogy is provided in the appendix along with a note from Rev. Benjamin C. Wentworth, youngest son of Barbara.
