Four letters dating from 1833, 1837, 1839, and 1844 addressed to Abigail Talbot Deering.
The first letter, dated 1833, is from George W. Wood in Troy, Tennessee, addressed to Abigail Talbot in Turner, Maine. The letter discusses Talbot's intention to move to that area, likely to teach.
The second letter was re-used several times, originally addressed to D.W. Mann in Portland, Maine, about the sale of land, and then Mann used it to send a note to David Talbot of Turner, Maine (1837).
The third letter is addressed to Mrs. Abigail Talbot Deering in West Wetumpka, Alabama, from her husband in Paulding, Mississippi, dated 1839. The husband's name might be Henry.
The fourth letter is addressed to "Cousin Abigail" in Goose River, Camden, Maine, in 1844, from [I.W.? Talbot] in Turner, Maine. This letter mentions that Abigail has recently moved back to Maine, and mentions a few other names, including David, Nathaniel, and Emery.
Abigail Talbot was from Turner, Maine, and was a schoolteacher. David and Nathaniel Talbot, brothers from Turner, both lived in Rockport beginning in the late 1830's and early 1840's. A family connection is possible but unverified.Collection
