Map title "Town of Northport and surrounding towns." In Vital Records of Northport, Waldo County, Maine prior to 1892, transcribed by Elizabeth M. Moser (Camden, Maine: Picton Press 1995, ISBN 0-89725-232-2), the map appears on page iii of the book.
This map is a photocopy of that in the book, in the History Center collection. It is uncertain where the original is located at present, possible with the town records, This version in the book was copied from the original plan by John Harkness, the primary sur[vey?]; sur[veyor]? About 1800 by Hiram P. Farrow, surveyor. This copy made by Hiram P. Farrow, civil engineer, AD 1930. From the T[ ? ] of 1879. (Note the title block on the map appears to have been trimmed on its right-hand margin causing loss of some of its information.)
The map itself shows early settlers on the lots, as well as acreage and other information. Note the curiously set two North arrows.
It is well known that Hiram Farrow copied many (if not all) of the Waldo County map originals in 1879-1880s, and again in the 1930s made more formal copies of the earliest maps of Waldo County towns. Given the dates in the partial title of the block, it appears that this particular map copy was made from that 1930s series.
The map book into which this series of maps was bound is located in the Waldo County Registry of Deeds, and is often called "The Red Book" or "The Red Map Book."Collection
