Plan of the Town of Liberty Maine. Copied from the Twenty Associates Plan by Hiram P. Farrow, Civil Engineer, 1932. Enlarged photocopy of original lotting plan of Liberty by James Malcolm, Surveyor. This survey continues that done by Malcolm of Appleton west of Appleton Ridge (which was separately surveyed by John Harkness).
Note that the individual plots are arranged horizontally (from west to east) and labeled in Roman numerals from I through XX, and also labeled at the top of the map in Ranges, R.1. through R.20. (The Range numbers match the Roman numerals). The Lots (rows) are numbered from south to north, Nos. 4 through 8. The first row is labeled Lots No. 4, because Lots Nos. 1 through 3 are in the Appleton part of the survey. Individual lots sold at the time of the survey are labeled, for example, "Doty Richards," which is Lots No. 6, Range 14 (or XIV). Principal lakes, ponds and streams are shown, as well as roads. This map appears to be part of a set drafted by Hiram Farrow for Waldo County in 1932. He had been collecting these early lot plans since at least the 1880s. This is No. 10 of a series.
