Scope and Content

Arnold's Wilderness March trail map and guide. 18-fold brochure; 2 sided. The principal side is a color map of Col. Benedict Arnold's expedition to Quebec in 1775, showing the portion from the Kennebec across the 1750 Height of Land to Lac Megantic. Three insets show the map key, the overview of the route to Quebec from Cambridge, MA, and a description of the rigors of the land route. On the reverse side of the map are a variety of detailed insets, including present-day "driving directions" (for a portion of the original route near present-day roads) and other details. Also included is a much-reduced reproduction of (British) Col. John Montressore's 1761 map (original in the Library of Congress), sources of the Chaudiere, Penobscot, and Kennebec Rivers.
