Description

"PRINT OF WALDO PATENT MAP. Post-1793, from the Boston 52 Athenaeum. Photocopy of a black and white Photostat of an untitled map of the Muscongus, or Lincolnshire Grant/Waldo Patent prepared for General Knox between 1793 and 1798. Title added by label on this image. This map depicts the area from the Kennebec River to the eastern side of Penobscot Bay and River, and from the offshore islands south of Muscongus Bay to north of Bangor. Boundaries and Town Names are shown for Cushing, Waldoborough, Warren, Thomaston,Union, Cambden, Barrettstown, Appleton, Northport, Belfast, and Frankfort, as well as for Vinalborough Township and Islesborough Township. Roads are shown, and names of inhabitants along the roads are named [on the original map at the Athenaeum] but are not readable on this third generation reduced copy. This map is accompanied by two photocopies of sections at full scale of the original for Ducktrap and for Warren. It is also accompanied by a written description of the roads and a list of the people living along them, prepared by Donovan A. R. Bowley, who gave these items to the Walsh History Center. The photostat was provided by Donald Burke of Appleton, and the fullsize photocopies of sections were from the Theodore and Nancy Brown Collection at the Appleton Historical Society.
