Collection of documents to support the author's quest to have Rev. Powers recognized as a Revolutionary War patriot by the National Committee for Congressional Recognition, June 1, 1963. Reverend Powers was born November 29, 1728 in Dunstable, New Hampshire. His father, Captain Peter Powers, served with distinction as an officer in the French & Indian Wars. Rev. Powers became the first ordained minister at the First Congregational Church in Newbury, Vermont in 1764. His eldest son Peter, Jr. was killed in a campaign in New York on September 30, 1776. Four other sons enlisted in the Continental Army and survived. Newbury was the center of Toryism, and Rev. Powers delivered 2 historic sermons in 1780 against the British supporters entitled "Tyranny" and "Toryism Exposed."
