Scope and Content

Letter to the librarian of the Camden Public Library, Camden, Maine from Dr. Harold C. Arey, Superintendent of the Hospital Cottages for Children in Baldwinville, Massachusetts, dated 2 February 1932. Letter explains his donation of 19th century correspondence from Camden residents. Letter reads: "Dear Madam, Am enclosing some old letters written by some of our [underlined] early residents. If you have an idea of forming a historical society at any time these may be of value. Rather interesting to see how business was carried on in those days, especially before the Volstead Act had its influence upon trade. (Not so different now.) Note the 12 1/2 cent postage from Camden to Boston and probably conveyed by vessel. Compare with the 24 hour service orders we enjoy today. Very truly, Harold C. Arey"
